FedEx Freight pulling discounts

Postby forklifter » Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:34 pm

What is up with FedEx Freight?????? They went hog wild giving it all away last fall trying to increase their numbers and now they are taking the discounts back on top of the General Rate Increase that went into effect 2/1/10.......

They may have some awesome transit times and great service but the pricing games they are playing with us sucks!!!

FedEx will not reap any great rewards from this!

Not really a fan of the service. They're good with transit times and they have the coverage to get freight picked and delivered, but the service is lacking.

The customer service people will not go out of their way to help you, and they'll fiddle around with invoices and play dumb when you catch errors they make. They love adding charges to bills, which makes me find them too risky to ship with in most cases.

Forklifter,

What state are you in? Fed-X hit us with a GRI (General Rate Increase) last week. the word on the street is the shippers will need to increase freight or have rates pulled. How does Fed-X expect LTL tonage to improve in this economy? Have you seen other surface freight carriers give GRI? I would expect this if YRC goes under but this a GRI when volumes are down is a questionable business practice in my book. Shall I ship some air?

Most carriers are slashing costs just to keep the trucks full. Fedex is going to lose business out of this and I think if lower cost carriers can offer the coverage they do, people aren't going to come back.

Actually all the LTL carriers take a General Rate Increase every year on all current tariff accounts. This is yet another reason you should use a 3PL. They are usually on Frozen Rates that have to be negotiated, not automatic ajusted.
